Gethsemane Garden Center
Company History

Gethsemane Garden Center began in 1977. Owner Regas Chefas grew up with Victory gardens at home and worked each year for his father, Jack (Spiros) Chefas, selling pumpkins & Christmas trees on Devon Avenue. With the help of his father, sister & brother-in-law, Sally and Jerry Costello and neighborhood friend, Bob Levy, Regas opened Gethsemane Garden Center.

Carrying on the family tradition to the third generation, Sarah and her brother Regas Jr. worked for their dad throughout their school years, every summer and through the busy Christmas seasons until they graduated from college and moved on to their own careers.

Starting with the original business, selling annuals, perennials, vegetables, and soil, Gethsemane expanded the Garden Center's offerings over the years, adding Trees & Shrubs, Fountains and Garden Statuary, and the Greenhouse. What started as a business on one small corner lot grew to its current size, two city blocks long!

With a passion for excellent customer service and commitment to providing the highest quality and best selection of plants and trees, word spread quickly and customers came from all over the city, suburbs and surrounding states. Now we are a regular tourist spot for garden aficionados worldwide with visitors last year from Germany, Norway and Japan.

In the 1990's Gethsemane added another unique flavor, the Wild Pansy Gift Shoppe, managed by Kathleen Chefas and her daughter, Jennifer Gehant. The Wild Pansy carries unique quality items from around the world and has quickly become a favorite destination for unique and tasteful gifts for all occasions.

In 2007, we launched the Garden & Home Decor store, offering custom design services and featuring decorative accessories and furniture for home and outdoor living spaces.
