RosesAt Gethsemane we take our roses very seriously, and the results show. The Roses are coming! ![]() During the month of March, we will plant 2500 Gethsemane bare root roses! At our offsite garden in Chicago, our crew of eight experienced rose planters work hard to prepare our roses for your garden. Our roses arrive from six different growers in the U.S. and Canada. First, the roots and canes are carefully pruned, and the trimmed plants are soaked for at least eight hours in a fragrant brew of fish emulsion, compost, and water. Finally, each rose is tucked snugly into a roomy 7-gallon pot with the best available soil, giving the roots plenty of room to spread out. As the roses leaf out, they will be given a healthy portion of organic rose food to boost their growth. This healthy start makes Gethsemane roses the best around! ![]() Our selection of roses is vast, and includes fragrant antique roses, hybrid teas, floribundas and grandifloras, David Austin English roses, climbers, shrubs, rugosas, native species roses, and American Rose Society winners. We carry many cold-hardy and disease-resistant varieties, rare Old Roses you won’t see anywhere else, as well as smaller varieties suitable for a balcony container! Interested in a particular variety? Email us, and we can set your roses aside for you! Once our roses are brought into the Gethsemane Yards, they are tended and cared for by our trained rose team, who will gladly assist you in choosing the right rose to accent your garden and compliment your existing roses. Have a question about caring for your rose? Call anytime and ask for the roses department! With your purchase of a Gethsemane rose you will receive our own Rose Care Guide, which covers all aspects of rose care, from planting, spacing, watering, fertilizing, deadheading, disease and pest control, winter protection and spring pruning.
