Covid-19 Response

Updated 2/28/22:

To Our Community and Beloved Customers,

Effective today, February 28th, the City of Chicago has removed the mask and vaccine requirements for certain public spaces. At this time, Gethsemane Garden Center will not require customers to wear masks while in the store, although we highly recommend it. To err on the side of caution, our staff will continue to wear masks for the time being.

Please refer to the CDC mask usage guidelines if you have been exposed or are exhibiting symptoms.

We look forward to seeing your smiling faces soon. Thank you for your cooperation!

Sincerely,
All of us at Gethsemane

Updated 8/10/21:

To Our Community and Beloved Customers,

In consideration of our employees and their families, many of whom have young unvaccinated children and grandchildren, we are reinstating our store mask requirement regardless of vaccination status.

The Chicago Department of Public Health now recommends that everyone 2+ wear masks in public indoor settings, regardless of vaccination status. Although the risk of COVID-19 transmission is lower outdoors, we ask everyone to wear their mask while shopping in any area of Gethsemane Garden Center.

Thank you for wearing a mask while shopping indoors and outdoors at our store.

Sincerely,
Gethsemane Garden Center

Updated 5/14/21:

We are still reviewing and evaluating the recent mask guidelines announced by the CDC. Gethsemane Garden Center is still requiring masks at this time. We respect our customer’s privacy and will not violate HIPAA guidelines by asking for proof of vaccination status.

Thank you for wearing a mask while shopping indoors and outdoors at our store. We will reassess and provide an update on masks soon.

Thank you for your patience as the remainder of our staff and surrounding community members receive the vaccine.

Sincerely,

Gethsemane Garden Center

We know our store is both a source of comfort and pleasure for our customers and a longtime employer of hundreds of community residents. We are actively sanitizing and disinfecting the areas where our customers and employees are most likely to gather.
With that in mind, we ask that when you visit our garden center you kindly take mindfulness into account. If you are ill or under the weather, please stay home. We need to be aware of how even shopping for a houseplant to fight the doldrums might endanger our employees, fellow customers, and the greater Chicago area.

We are grateful to our regular customers and to the new faces we’ve seen over the last few days amidst the panic. We are thankful to those who see our store as a garden in the city.

We ask that if you are in fear of exposure or exposing others please stay home for the safety of our employees and our community. Please familiarize yourself with information provided by the CDC as well coverage by the New York Times (now no longer paywall restricted).

Stay calm, water your plants, have faith,
Everyone at Gethsemane Garden Center
